Stealing what? [She shrugs back, guessing it'd be something fairly basic – modest amounts of cash or credit, maybe, or a major stash of retail material. Jeryline doesn't seem like the sort to go for the gusto in criminal circumstances. Perhaps drugs, to raise a hefty profit. In any case, she won't judge.]

Not for more than a couple of months as kids. [By which she mostly means her as a preteen.] At least, the ones I worked closely with.

Nearly a year. You might say that the penal system had me at a disadvantage 'cause I fit a certain type- [she motions at her face] -and they were all up in arms over gang shit at the time. Like bein' on the street meant you had to be in a gang and if you were in a gang you probably killed somebody and they had to keep you in long enough to be sure.

[Her tone incredulous all the way through the story, but she rolls her eyes finally.] Anyway, work release after that. Work release boss got her arm torn off in front of me. Demon hunting after that.

[She considers her life pretty succinct. However, she reconsiders her last statement with a funny look.] Okay, more runnin' from Demons and killin' them when they catch up to me. Which is almost hunting.

What made you start with the demon stuff?

Guy showed up. Grizzly. Wearin' leather. Actually pretty hot come to think of it. [That's a strange thought to have with his memories in her head.] Then the demon showed up. Hot but also one of those guys you just knew was bad news? By the next morning I was the only one in the hotel left alive because of some predestination bullshit.

[Going over to sit opposite her, Bea crosses her arms over her chest and sits down, sizing Jeryline up.] Why do you ask?

Because if someone wants to start somethin', I want to know if there's gonna be somethin'. I know you can take care of yourself, but the fact that you've had to for a real long time doesn't mean it's the only way it's gotta be. [She motions between the two of them.

Jeryline's size, by the by, is nearly a foot shorter than Beatrix. However, she talks like she's twice her size.]

Doesn't matter if it's necessary. It's like when your grandma gives you an ugly ass sweater for Christmas. Those of us that had a shortage in ugly ass sweaters could use all the other sentiments that came with it. They're just somethin' that somebody wants you to have whether you'll wear it or not to remind you that day of the year you were with 'em.

You see, there's seven of these. I'm guardin' the last one from the demons I mentioned. They've gathered the other six, and if they get the Seventh the Formless Void bullshit happens all over again.

So I graduate you, the other six keys get split up. They're shit out of luck all over again.

[Bea's gaze moves from the key to Jeryline's face to the space around them, then back, scrutinizing over the previous two.] Jesus. You've got a world to defend and they gave you me to graduate?

But strictly speaking, I think it's doable. Your file didn't have intolerable waste of space written on it. You're still capable of respectin' people, even the ones you knock off. And you really didn't like the idea of little girls endin' up havin' to live like us.

So yeah. It's doable.

It didn't, hm? What about "horrible bloodthirsty killer"? [She is honestly amazed no one has thrown that accusation at her yet, especially as she has no way to refute it.]

No little girl should have to. If she wants to fight when she's grown up, let her, but as a child...

Look, I don't like killin' people, and I'd wager you don't either. [She gives Beatrix an earnest look, crossing her arms.] There would have been more dead people here, for one thing. For another, you gave up killin' for a while, and you were pretty damn pissed when the selfish fuckers came and took your happiness away.

For one thing, there are a lot of women that are in the company of men that will do them grievous harm. You are in the position to defend them. I know that workin' for free generally isn't your strong suit, but workin' for personal satisfaction is and makin' them safe can be pretty satisfying work.

On top of that, I'm not gonna tell you not to do what you want to do. I don't like killin' myself. I will if it's a soulless fucker or someone about to sell me out to a soulless fucker, but not 'til I know. But I do acknowledge that you had five people walk into your wedding, kill every friend you made that you didn't have to be afraid of, your future husband, shoot you, and then robbed you of your daughter and left you alive, unsupervised in a hospital where you were exploited for four fuckin' years while they went on with their merry little lives.

But I think it's in you to not let someone hire you to do something like they did. And I think it's in you to make sure that's not repeated if you catch it goin' down. Am I wrong?

That's your idea? [She's not going to belittle it but she sounds doubtful. There's a large amount of women at men's mercy and it's never occurred to her she might be in a position to help them.
