Fine.

You've all thought about it, even if you haven't said it: if you could kill anyone, or order anyone killed, from your world or here, who would it be?

If you feel like answering a bonus question, why? Unless you're extraordinarily brave, I expect your answer privately. No judgment.

Rassilon. Zev's inmate. Not killed, that's been tried. I'd need 'im never to 'ave 'appened, and I'd need to do some very tricky stitchwork to keep the rest of us existing after that.

I'd still do it for two pins if I could see me way round it. Though I've got a tiny little hope this boat'll work its magic on 'im till I don't need to - 'ope, but not much faith.

I'm not private 'cause I'm scared. 'E knows what I think of 'im. The other wardens get narky if I say this stuff about an inmate, though. Call it tactful.

My estranged wife. She didn't really make a secret of what she felt about me, so I don't feel like I should make one of how I feel about her.

[There's still a lot more heartbreak than raw anger than he wants to admit to, though.

Also he's actually not brave enough to name Zo'or.]

What made you think about it?

I did try to kill a former inmate from my world. [And he still wishes he hadn't failed. >:( ] I'd recently found out that he was partly responsible for the destruction of our entire race, so I can't say I especially regret it. [Except for the part where he failed. >:( ]

Lydecker.

[That's it. Just the one name, succinct and clear. Except for how there's the ever, ever so slight note of uncertainty lurking beneath the clipped enunciation.]

Who would that be? And are you in one of those irritating positions- besides being here, that is, where you can't do anything about it? You just have to tolerate them.

[And it's gone, hidden beneath the safety measures he's learned for everything about him.]

Colonel Lydecker is the director of the transgenic program at Manticore. He oversees the training, coordinates the exercises, and verifies our progress. He's responsible for us existing at all, and continuing to be produced.

[That's all just fact. What Ben doesn't say is that in an environment where children are products and have no parents or family besides each other, he's the closest thing they have to a physical paternal figure.]

More strength to you, then. [He hesitates over a way to phrase it, and then decides to go to private.]

To actively want someone to not exist... that's far different than just treating someone as expendable. It usually means that you've suffered a great deal at their hand and you've been driven to the point that you don't want to suffer any longer. To not have them just out of your life, to have them not to be.

[He's had to kill people that he's not particularly wanted dead. He does what he needs. But he knows the difference in necessity and wanting them dead. At least among people that still have an ounce of morality.]

So I do wish you luck.

He is the representative of Manticore in everything that has happened and everything that will happen to transgenics like me. Without him to perpetuate the program, there is at least a chance that it would stop.

Or perhaps they would merely replace him with someone worse.

What changed?

Yes, well... hesitant as I am to admit it, my warden is correct. The woman that betrayed me isn't the woman I married. She's a far different person now. I don't know if the same can be said of your associate.

He's not here anymore, whatever that means. I guess so. [Oh, that's kind of comforting. Good. Be dead, Gaius. You suck.]

Oh, that is fucked up.

Do you think graduation hinges on letting go of wanting to kill the fuck out of them?
