[The cell was spartan in its trappings, the whole room nothing but cold metal and hard surfaces. It was small, too, hardly large enough to pace from one end to the other, and offered a distinct lack of privacy due to the row of bars separating Beatrix from the rest of the cellblock. It was tedious, cramped, awkward, but on the whole, tolerable. Worse things could have happened, she knew that well. In terms of punishment, a week of solitude below decks was a remarkably light one for a murder.

Murder. When Sarah had described the killing that way Beatrix had bristled a little at the use of the word (as she saw it, killing Cato had been the natural reaction to his attack) but didn't protest it. Slight inaccuracy aside, murder was what she did.

She supposed she should feel some guilt for that.

The guilt didn't come, however. Instead, B only felt a mixture of mundane emotions: exhaustion from the flood, annoyance at her captivity, and a quiet, hidden satisfaction at a job well done.

Zero, she thought, was not having quite the intended effect on her.

Guess who's a free woman.

[At this point, there's little else to say. A fairly empty smile crosses B's face before she turns the feed off.]

Fair enough. I'm usually beer or whiskey but uh...they have some interesting stuff on the menu in there, and I might check out something new.

Yep. Though some of the stuff here I doubt I could reproduce. I'll get your martini set up if I show up first.

[He's looking forward to this--so long as he doesn't get so sloppy he wanders into slap-deserving levels of derp. But that rarely happens.]

[He gets to the pub door and pounds on it.] Hey yo! Who's on duty in there?

Guess I forgot my suit and tie. [Actually he looks freshly showered and combed, and is in a clean black button-up and trousers, so...not terrible.]

[He waits for someone to open the door for them.] Here we go. Bar or table?

[He thinks about it.] I don't wanna yell at the bar people, they provide one of the few good things about this place. Table.

[He looks over the menu.] Holy crap, this thing has gotten even longer.

I have actually been wanting to try Romulan Ale since I found out they have it. You know, Starfleet, Captain Kirk and all that? That world. I figured what the hell. [He heads up to order.]

Actually I came in right before he flipped out, took over and took us to this space resort thing for a couple of days. That kicked ass.

[He raps on the bar to call Arkady over.] Bottle of Romulan ale and two glasses, please.

No argument there. I get on all right on an average day on the Barge, even with all the drama and shit, but...damn.

[He retrieves their order and pours into the chilled glasses.]

Heh. Yeah, he seemed like an all right guy. Can't comment on attractiveness though.

[He tries his drink, and raises his eyebrows.] This is good--whoah, holy shit. [He blinks a few times.] It's smooth but it packs a wallop.

Yeah, I know. I do enjoy some of it. The whole having my brother back thing is really growing on me. Especially since... [A hesitation. Talking about Richie being better was pretty private. He just really likes her and wants to confide but...he's not quite there yet.]

Well, it's like he never died.

Heh-heh. Okay, I admit, if Han Solo showed up I would feel about ten fuckin' years old, you know what I'm saying?

The space guys can probably tell us some damn good stories, whatever else is true.

Ya know, I wasn't thinking of it, but then Barron piped up with the idea and now, I want to see if it can be done. [Another swallow.] I can't believe they serve this in wine glasses. Those Romulans must be amazing at holding their liquor.

Thing is, I'd have to find a way to say, smuggle out one of those replicator things, plus a hundred year power source. You set that up in the bar's basement and you just crank the stuff out. It converts any matter to booze.

[He thinks about that.]

It's really...it's an advantage and it's not. Seeing him back is a damn good thing. And the other thing is...well...[another swallow] He's sick.

He doesn't mean to be. It's probably something he got from his dad. But back home before all this happened he was really having problems. He was here almost a year relative time before I showed up, and he's...well...he's getting better.

Despite all the crap that goes on that really made me sit up and take notice.

[He doesn't catch yet that his tongue has been loosened.]

You know, I'm not much for straight jobs that don't involve lots of alcohol, but I would seriously go for being a crewmate on a spaceship. Not some regulation place but, you know, I'd be a Rebel in a second. Or smuggle medicine or some crap.

Rhade, huh? Haven't met him yet. Probably need to get out more, but I feel naked in a place like this without a goddamn piece.

Heh. That would be a sweet goddamn deal. Exclusive rights to Romulan Ale on our world. I could make some serious bank on that.

Weird though, thinking about going and getting a Deal. But I gotta stay here for my brother, graduation or not, and he...might take a long time.

I don't know though. A lot of the people who are here as Inmates just don't hit me as needing to be "redeemed" or any of that shit. A lot of people here, you talk to them, yeah, some are crazy or evil or real assholes, but a lot of them, you hear their stories and you think "shit. I woulda done the same thing."

He thinks about it. "I guess if I had the choice I'd want my own damn ship and crew. But I'd probably have backed the Rebels. Real quietly."

The weapons discussion made him get a grim expression, and he took another swallow of his drink. "I had my .44 on me, a good folding knife and a couple of speedloaders. They just disarm people. Hanzo?" He didn't do swords, so he didn't understand the awesome.

I guess we'll see. Tell you this, I'm already taking advantage of his system so I may as well try it. [He tries to drain his glass for emphasis. His eyes start watering slightly and he has to force himself to swallow.] Whooh. Okay. I'm awake.

[He considers her comment on inmates.] Didn't they just barely get a shrink on staff like a month ago? Seems like a big hole in their roster to me.

[He refills his glass...halfway. He's a little reckless but not actively stupid.] The only way to deal with an Empire is to be both really agile and really connected.

I go for an Astra .44 CTG. It's a Spanish piece, tough as hell, pretty much problem free as long as you are used to the recoil. Bad news is that Astra went out business in the eighties, so I probably can't replace it when I get out of here.

Well, thinking about it, there are way too many Wardens who stay past their first Deal, so he must be paying off at least some of the time. Goody-two-shoes types may be annoying but not all of them are stupid.

[He laughs.] Goddamn. I wonder how this shit would do in mixers?

Yeah, I noticed. He looks like someone replaced his heart with a computer chip. But the only other shrink I know of on board is Hannibal Fucking Lecter.

[He considers her, then takes out his communicator and writes a note to himself.] Star. OK, I'll look them up. Seems like Spaniards make some damn good firearms.
