He's a sweet kid. Question number two: he asked a favor of me, namely that I'd teach him what I know about kung fu in the crane style. I don't want to promise anything without clearing it first. Any objections to that?

Holy crap, I dunno if I can stand that kind of excitement.

[Yeah he kind of thought that might be what this is about; he saw Kon talking to her, saw it switch to private, and figured the kid was finagling someone else into helping him somehow else. If he hadn't heard about it by the end of port, he was going to be the one contacting her.

Not that he gives any of this away, raising both eyebrows in a way that's fairly audible even without being able to see his face.]

[She's hoping she can talk to Kon before the excitement of the port's passed, just to test how serious he is about the whole arrangement. If he can tear himself away from the luxuries of Risa, well, she'll know he's ready to do the work.]

He said he wants to learn better discipline.

Yeah, that sounds like Kon. What'd you have in mind?

Dare I ask, or is that story not to be shared? [At least he doesn't sound impatient and pissed off yet, though that question might do it.]

Nothing too intensive. A little practiced meditation and studying a few of the traditional forms – they're mostly designed for evasion. If you wanted you could sit in.

[No, and the annoyance is fading as he has something else to focus on, actually. The smirk is audible.] You can dare whatever you'd like, but I probably won't answer.

I don't need to sit in. Kon has enough of his powers he can take care of himself in a pinch if you've got funny ideas, and he knows to holler for me. I'll check in with him in a couple days and see what you guys've been up to.

[Amiable, even nonchalant, but also keen. Dean's not worried about Kon for a couple reasons.]

[The idea that she might be a threat to Kon-El makes her laugh aloud.] Whatever I could do to Kon, I'm sure he could do three times worse to me. Don't worry. Worst-case scenario, he quits.

[It's just how his brain works when he's dealing with strangers; also, Kon is his responsibility, and he takes that very seriously. Even if it's sometimes difficult to tell between the basically hands off approach and his current difficulties giving a shit about anything.

He would smile placidly at her if they were face to face. His tone manages to convey the same.] I'll keep that in mind. Yeah, if you can get him to stick with it, have at it. With my thanks for being willing.

[The lie about her name attests that she thinks similarly. She senses no real objection from him, so she smiles as she goes on.]

[He doesn't know it's a lie; even if he did he wouldn't have much ground to stand on. He has so many fake IDs and aliases back home that sometimes he feels like he might forget how to use his own real name.

He is wearing a Property of Starfleet t-shirt some new cadet buddies bought him and his hair's loose. He beams as he wanders in, bringing with him a six-pack of strangely glowing sodas.]

[B had anticipated that meeting Dracula in person would be even more of a trip than talking to him over the network, but she had definitely not anticipated jeans, a Starfleet shirt, and a radioactive six-pack. Clearly this was a man who was no stranger to the unexpected; she'd have to remember that.]

This was about as "dressed down" as Dracula got, but it seemed to make a better impression on the locals than his usual more somber look. He chuckled and waved, then held up the drinks. "Something called 'Firefly Cola'. I was celebrating with some Starfleet cadets--lovely people--and my shirt got destroyed, so the fellow who did it bought me this one and a case of this."

It's good of him to try to put the locals at ease, but his casual look does disturb B a little. You just don't read histories of impalement and Stoker novels without getting a little bit of a mental image built up and Dracula is definitely going against it. But then again, what did she expect?

"Starfleet? I didn't know they partied that hard," she said, awkwardly hoping it wouldn't come to light that her new souvenir had probably been lifted off one of their classmates. "What did they do to your shirt?"

"Flaming drinks. A whole tray full of them right in the chest. There was a fist fight, you see...it was all rather silly." He shrugs and sets aside the glowing drinks. "More strange souvenirs for the collection. So. Let us see what practice weapons they have."

"I don't envy you, in that case." Somehow she had managed to avoid fistfights in the bars thus far, a small mercy – the less she had to do with any law enforcement (in a professional capacity), the better. "Let's do that. I take it this isn't your first port."

"Better me than one of them! Otherwise we would have spent our night attending the unlucky one in hospital. My shirt...well. It's just cloth."

He went to the rack, immediately drawn by some of the more exotic looking blades. "Ah, tempting, tempting but their methods are unknown to me." He lifted a broadsword. "This, on the other hand...."

"That's an awfully selfless way to look at it. Still, glad no one got badly hurt.

"Good choice." He would pick the broadsword, one of the weapons with the power behind it to counter a katana. She was curious to see how he handled it, selecting a Chinese broadsword for herself. Not her bailiwick, but it would do. "This is about as close as I can get."
