032 VIDEO LIST FOURTEEN
[Nothing strange here: when the feed clicks on Beatrix is in the gym, bokken in one hand. She turns the hilt over in her hand as she speaks, as if getting a feel for the practice weapon. She's still covering one eye with a patch but the cuts on her arms and chest from the Creed encounter are fading into purple scars, and despite the injuries she looks none the worse for wear -- even cheerful.]
How many of you use swords back home?
They're favored in my world among certain classes. Carried with at least one sidearm, of course, because there's no sense in sacrificing range for elegance. Contrary to popular belief you can live by the gun and the sword, but it's usually only career killers who do.
Not since Lakeside have we had a good swashbuckle, and I want to remedy that. For any inmate who wants to spar, I've got access to practice weapons. For any warden, come on: let's play with sharp things.

That said, of course a blade isn't appropriate for every situation. Every weapon has its strengths.

[She is not mocking. Merely expressing her view from a far more objective perspective. History. Technique. Elegance. Respect. Concepts which were somewhat foreign to her, and certainly (almost) never presented to her on any battlefield she had ever encountered.]
Though it is worth noting that most weapons require both study and dedication in order to be proficiently wielded, I must question the logic in choosing a weapon that not only offers limited defensive and offensive strategies, but increases the probability of personal injury exponentially.

[They may be foreign concepts to Aya but they're the basis of an entire worldview of Beatrix.]
The likelihood of injury only adds to the urgency of developing the skill. The sword is hardly an easy instrument to master, and that's part of the appeal.
video
[However, given the nature of the conversation, Aya was showing an unusual amount of restraint and attempt at consideration. The perspective on battle was...interesting.]
You claim the choice of weapon is meant to inspire motivation?
video
[The restraint was appreciated. Beatrix is aware that her views can be incomprehensible to others, as theirs can be to her. Aya's consideration even amid her skepticism earns her a point in Bea's book.]

[But for Aya? ...it just might've been a push in the right direction.]
Is it universally recognized among your foes?
